Anatta

For flute, carinet in Bb, violin and violoncello.

Much of my music is very inspired by concepts within Buddhism. "Anatta" is the Pali word for "no permanent, separate self". The nature of self and identity and the way in which they are constructed has, in my opinion, fascinating philosophical and psychological connotations, which inspired me to write this piece.

This piece is for clarinet, flute, violin and cello. It was written on the Sound and Music Summer School 2015 at the Purcell School For Young Musicians. It is based on the Buddhist concept of Anatta, or "no permanent, separate self", which is something that has fascinated me for some time: the nature and structure of the self.
